Travel Insurance For Single & Solo Travellers

Travelling by yourself does not need to be difficult! Taking out single or solo travel insurance can be cost effective.

Travel insurance for solo travellers

Travelling solo gives you more freedom and flexibility to travel wherever and whenever you want, but it also means you may not have someone to help you in an emergency situation.

That’s where Fast Cover’s single travel insurance has your back!

Perhaps your dream trip involves backpacking through Europe, working or volunteering in Southeast Asia, a working holiday in Canada, or island hopping in the Caribbean or Pacific Islands.

Solo travel insurance is designed to protect your prepaid travel arrangements, as well as help cover unexpected costs in emergencies such as medical and hospital expenses, replacing lost or stolen belongings, or making alternative travel arrangements to reach a special event if your flights are cancelled or delayed.

If you're flying solo, Fast Cover has travel insurance policies to suit a range of single traveller types and budgets.

Who should get Solo travel insurance?

Anyone planning to travel as an individual for the duration of their trip can get Solo travel insurance, including:

Fast Cover’s Solo travel insurance is simple and flexible. If you're aged 89 or younger, you can buy Solo travel insurance wherever you’re travelling and whether your plan is to have an adventure holiday, a relaxing getaway, or to work while you travel.

The benefits of Solo travel insurance

Solo Travel Insurance is designed to be flexible so that you can build a policy that covers your needs.

Check out the benefits tables below to compare the levels of cover available:

Some of the benefits of Fast Cover travel insurance include:

Emergency Medical and Hospital Cover:

Our international policies offer 24 hour Emergency Medical Assistance as well as cover for Emergency Medical and Hospital Expenses for the duration of your trip.

Trip Cancellation Cover:

We also provide cover for flight cancellations and can cover the cost of alternative transport if you’re stuck somewhere.

Cover for Pre-Existing Medical Conditions:

We cover 43 Pre-Existing Medical Conditions in our Solo travel insurance policies, eliminating the need to fill out a medical assessment!

See our Pre-Existing Medical Conditions page for more details on what conditions we can cover.

Cover for activities:

We cover a huge list of different sports and activities like snorkelling, bungee jumping and even shark cage diving!

Optional extra cover:

If you're feeling extra adventurous, our optional Adventure Pack add-on provides cover for even more adventure sports and activities such as quad bike riding, skydiving and zip lining.

Thinking of riding a motorcycle, moped or scooter overseas? Add our optional Motorcycle Pack add-on to your policy, to cover you in case of accidents or injuries.

If you're planning to go skiing, snowboarding or try other snow sports on your holiday, we have a Snow Sport Plus policy to cover those too. It includes cover for your snow equipment, piste closure, and can reimburse the unused portion of your ski package if you can’t use it due to sickness or an injury.

Need extra cover for your Solo trip?

We've made our policies flexible by allowing you to customise your policy with a number of additional options.

Motorcycle Pack:

Add our Motorcycle Pack add-on to your policy to cover yourself for injuries or accidents when riding a scooter, moped or motorcycle overseas (with appropriate licences).

Rental Vehicle Excess Insurance:

If you're hiring a car or campervan on your trip, you can add cover for the Rental Vehicle Excess to our Standard Saver, Comprehensive, Frequent Traveller Saver and Snow Sports Plus policies. You can select either $5,000 worth of cover or $8,000 for an additional premium.

Increased cover for High Value Items:

If you’re planning on taking some valuable items, you can purchase additional cover per valuable item (up to 3 items) by paying an additional premium. Specifying items also means the item's value is 'locked in' so there's no deduction for depreciation on these items if you need to make a claim.

Adventure Pack:

We cover a huge list of sports and activities for our travellers including bungee jumping, elephant riding, kayaking and trekking. However, for adrenaline junkies, you can also add on our Adventure Pack to do more heart-racing activities such as abseiling, skydiving, or caving.

Bicycle Pack:

If you’re a keen cyclist and want to take your own bike on your travels, you can get additional cover for your equipment in case it gets permanently lost, stolen or damaged.

Example Incidents~

Ben's Busted Lens

32-year-old Ben was hiking in New Zealand when a strong gust of wind broke his camera strap and knocked over the tripod, causing damage to the equipment. After providing proof of ownership with his claim, he was reimbursed for over $1,100 AUD under the luggage and personal effects of his Fast Cover travel insurance policy.

Sophie's Stairway Slip

47-year-old Sophie from Adelaide was on a retreat in Bali when she fell down a flight of stairs in the dark. As well as some nasty cuts and bruises and a mild concussion, an x-ray at the local hospital revealed she had also sustained a fracture in her foot. The Fast Cover emergency assistance team managed Sophie's case, liaised with hospital staff to cover her medical expenses and organised her return home to Australia. Sophie's policy cost less than $50 and covered the total of her medical treatment and repatriation at over $23,000 AUD.

Traveller Testimonials

Fast, easy and great service.

I took out a policy in October for a trip to Italy and the process couldn't have been easier. I spoke to the guys on the phone and asked them a few questions and they were very knowledgeable and professional. The site was easy to use and I managed to get a policy within a couple mins online.
