Barcelona Attack, August 2017

Information about travel to Barcelona

It has been reported that on 17 August, Spain has suffered what authorities are calling a terrorist attack after a van drove down one of Barcelona’s most popular boulevards, intentionally hitting pedestrians. With the ongoing threat of terrorism, Allianz Global Assistance urges travellers to be vigilant when in public places and follow the advice of local authorities. The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) is urging people to contact their loved ones directly.

Australian Government Advice

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) is advising travellers to exercise normal safety precautions and use common sense and look out for suspicious behaviour, as you would in Australia. Monitor the news and other sources for changes to local conditions.  For further information from DFAT, see Smart Traveller - Spain.
